SUMMARY:
The V5C with the MG shows it was first registered on 1st August 1971, doubtless to enable it to carry a brand spanking new ‘K’ registration number. It seems its second owner was a Dr Hunting who took it over some 10 years later on 18th August 1981 and we understand it was during his tenure that the B was damaged. It was then purchased by the vendor in 2001.
Though it seems to be essentially complete (the screen surround being the only obvious missing item, NB This has now been located and is obviously included in this Lot), having been stored outside (though under a tarpaulin) for a number of years items such as instruments and trim will need a not inconsiderable amount of work or replacement. Please note the MG has now been recovered from the field and is on an area of hard standing.
On the upside, a look in the rocker cover via the oil filler indicates the weather doesn’t seem to have got into the engine.
The second element to the Lot is a body shell which looks to have been restored or may even have been a new item, painted and rust proofed to a high standard. Though somewhat dusty, it has been barn stored on straw bales and a steel beam. Some attention is now required to its lower extremities, especially the rear valance from which paint is starting to flake off resulting in some corrosion though we feel it can be caught sufficiently early not to cause major issues. The boot lid has picked up a couple of dents and there is also a small paint chip and dent in the off-side rear wing as shown in the photo gallery. Two front wings and an off-side door are required though there is a fibreglass front wing (complete with ‘Sebring’ mirror) and a scruffy spare near-side door which may yield some useful ‘furniture’.
The Holy Grail of specifications - a UK right hand drive car on wire wheels with the desireable manual and overdrive gearbox - make this a potentially very worthwhile project for those of us who can't weld but have the ability to operate a spanner.
