SUMMARY:

Though we have yet to track down the Ford’s V5C (watch this space), it is on the DVLA system as a black Ford Granada, 1st registered on 1st August 1987, so acquiring a replacement should not be too difficult.

Interestingly, the Ford Service book is with the car and this yields the useful information that it was originally purchased from Hooley’s Garage, Nottingham by R Granger and Sons Ltd. of New Tythe Street Mills, Long Eaton. Grangers have been described as, “the last of the proper Nottingham lace companies” and it seems this was company transport for the directors, most likely a Mr J R Granger who signed the Customer Record form.

The Scorpio was serviced six times by Hooleys (with no less than four additional ‘oil and filter’ changes) in its first two years and 29,948 miles on the road. It was treated to two more services at W G Newman Ltd of Long Eaton at 33,347 miles and 39,429 in 1989 and 1990 respectively. Correspondence on file suggests that by 1993 the Granada was owned by a Mr Dean Haywood of Clifton, Nottingham and according to the DVLA, the last change to the V5C was made on 6th January 1994. Given the above, the current mileage reading of 68,393 seems entirely believable and the Ford remains in very original condition, down to its original Hooleys number plates, tax disc holder and rear window sticker.

Last on the road in May 1994, it is hoped that the Scorpio will prove to be a relatively straight forward recommissioning exercise. The body looks to be in good order and one would hope the “Raven” paint has been well protected under its layer of dust. Specification highlights include a genuine Ford “RS” front spoiler, 16” RS alloys, a glass sunroof and a cloth interior - quite a rare thing in an executive express such as this - which seems to be free from significant wear or bagginess.
